Summer Road Trip Safety Tips to Keep Your Trip Fun | Toronto, ON

If you’re heading out on the open road this summer, you’re not alone. Throughout Canada, many people will be doing just that. Here at Downtown Lincoln, to ensure that your road trip is both fun and safe, we’ve put together a few summer road trip safety tips for you to keep in mind.

Understand the terrain.

Throughout the country, there are a range of terrain types, from mountains to prairies. Depending on where you’re driving, make sure you know how to best drive your car in those terrains. Stay alert on flat prairies, which can cause fatigue easily, and try to avoid overheating your engine and brakes when you’re driving through the mountains.

Look out for wildlife.

Canada teems with wonderful wildlife, from caribou and moose to racoons and wolves. During the summer, these animals tend to be quite active, especially at dawn and dusk. Continually check the sides of the road for any wildlife to avoid a potential animal-vehicle collision.

Don’t forget an emergency kit.

You never know when you might find yourself stranded on the side of the road, so it’s best to be prepared for anything. Create an emergency kit with items like a first aid kit, flashlight, flares, jumper cables, nonperishable food items, blankets, water, and a cellphone and phone charger.
